Dr Kofi Essien, a Management, Financial Inclusion, and Livelihoods Development Specialist, is an advocate for sustainable development with a deep commitment to empowering women and vulnerable populations. With over 20 years of professional experience, Dr Essien combines expertise in value chain financing, rural banking, climate change resilience, and agribusiness to drive transformative change in underserved communities.

Kofi has a PhD in NGO Studies and Sustainable Community Development, with research focus on the role of digital financial tools and services in improving livelihoods, particularly for rural populations. His MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurship, combined with specialized training in financial management, climate change mitigation, and rural finance, enables him to craft innovative solutions at the intersection of finance, sustainability, and empowerment.

He has contributed to numerous organizations, including CARE International-Ghana, Cocoa buying companies in Ghana, Rural Banks and community savings groups, and the Ghana Revenue Authority, and has worked across sectors to design and implement strategies that build resilience to climate change while fostering economic inclusion. As a Senior Consultant at AB-Intel Limited and Founder of AB Empower Solutions, he uses his extensive experience to consult on value chain financing, rural banking, and climate resilience, helping organizations build sustainable, circular economic models.

Dr Essien is also a consulting speaker and resource person for executive seminars at the University of Cape Coast’s Department of Agricultural Economics and Extension, and a member of Climate Coaching Africa, the Ghana Association of Agricultural Economists, and the Philanthropy Forum-Ghana. He is passionate about advancing climate change mitigation strategies, promoting financial inclusion, and advocating for a more resilient and sustainable future for all.
