Book Circle

SHAPING TOMORROW
Playbook

READY TO START A BOOK CIRCLE?

What is a Book Circle?

A Book Circle involves a small group of people who meet on a regular basis to share specific pieces of literature. One of the great features of book circles is that they mirror the way we actually interact with the texts we read.

The process invites those involved to freely discuss, question, and debate the literature thereby gaining greater insights into the underlying messages being generated. In the case of the SHAPING TOMORROW Playbook, the process also involves practicing tools that hold direct relevance for the coaching context of the Book Circle.

SHAPING TOMORROW Playbook Circle

We’ve developed a flexible template based on a group of 8 -10 participants who meet weekly for anywhere between 6 and 13 weeks to explore each Step and practice the How Tools that each Circle decides are relevant to their local needs and circumstances.

The Circle has a leader or two co-leaders who manage the sessions using the Playbook Facilitation Guide we’ve provided below. Each meeting is set to be around 75 – 90 minutes. Session times are adjusted based on the time it will take for every participant to practice the How Tool chosen for that session.

If you’d like to establish and lead your own SHAPING TOMORROW Playbook Circle, read on. However, and just as important, if you’d like to join and participate in an existing Circle, you’ll find these listed below or on our Coming Events page.

Leading a SHAPING TOMORROW Playbook Circle?

  • First, decide when you would like to hold your Circle. Choose a day and time that suits you for roughly 13 weeks.

  • Second, post an event to invite others to your Playbook Circle. We recommend creating a “single” event spanning the 6 to 13 weeks and setting out all meeting dates. Select “Playbook Circles” as your Event Type and make sure to indicate the language used for the Playbook Circle. The SHAPING TOMORROW Playbook is only available in English, but the Circle sessions can be held in any language. We suggest the Circle is conducted online, but you are free to run in person if you prefer.
  • If on Zoom, with your own account, you will need to create a recurring zoom registration link that will cover each of your Circle meetings. This will allow you to gather your participants’ email addresses for on-going communication as well as provide them with all Circle meetings to be posted onto their respective calendars. Remember to limit the number of participants in your Zoom registration to about 10 people including yourselves. Click here for detailed Zoom Support information.

  • Publicize your Circle around you, in your pod or community, on LinkedIn or other Social Media. Get people to register.

  • Prior to Session 1, remind your participants about downloading a copy of the SHAPING TOMORROW Playbook for FREE here, letting them know about the pre-reading, and sharing the discussion questions for Step 1.

  • Review the facilitation guide for Step 1 below.

  • Start at Step 1.

  • At the end of Step 6, decide with your circle what a next step might be for your group. You’ll also be provided with a survey to fill out and we encourage your circle to do the same.
