Imagining coaching a decade from now – and the contributions it has made to the climate and ecological crisis through systemic collaboration
In this panel and workshop, with the JGSG (Joint Global Statement Group*) we will imagine it is 2034 and the coaching community has accelerated climate and ecological action in the intervening decade. We will explore what will be different in the world of coaching as a result compared to 2024.
In this session the JGSG members who were involved in our well-attended discussion in March, “What impact is the coaching community having on the climate and ecological crisis?,” will reflect on the contributions and collaborations we can all do and join the discussions in breakout rooms. They are Magda Mook (ICF), Rita Symons (EMCC), Hetty Einzig (AC) and Eve Turner (formerly APECS and now GSN), 4 of the key leaders of the coaching professional bodies at that time, and Anjali Nair (IAC), whose professional body has joined since. The panel and the participants will collectively imagine a future and come up with 3 actions to take forward, including suggesting one key organisation/institution to collaborate with. Please come and imagine with us and share your voice.
The JGSG is a unique collaboration between 13 coaching, mentoring, supervision and coaching psychology professional bodies, including the CCA recently invited to join, who together have memberships of around 300,000 professionals worldwide. The JGSG’s work started in 2019-2020 as the AC, APECS, EMCC and ICF, joined later by APAC, discussed what our profession could do about the climate and ecological emergency, seeing our role as creating a safe space for dialogue, exploration, and learning, not prescribing one right course of action. Together the 5 bodies wrote the Joint Statement on the crisis. It was published on 29th May 2020, and can be read here: https://www.jgsg.one/joint-global-statement/ or on the CCA website. Since then, 8 further bodies have joined, BPS DoCP, CCA, COMENSA, EASC, GSN, IAC, IOC and ISCP. Inclusion, curiosity, collaboration and compassion are central, with the group continuing to work together, meeting regularly and hosting roundtables.
